The Caboose Who Got Loose? A lonely ex-Ann Arbor Railroad streamlined-cupola caboose sits on a small trestle over an unnamed creek about two miles east of Bridgewater. This route was once part of the New York Central's Ypsilanti Branch that ran between Hillsdale and Ypsilanti, Michigan. The line was abandoned in segments starting in the early sixties and the segment between Saline and Bridgewater (where this photo was taken) finally fell victim to the scrapper's torch in 1968. The ties and trestles were left behind for the farmers and landowners to deal with, but in this case, it turned out to be a positive thing. Mr. Dale Fosdick purchased the former Ann Arbor caboose from Artrain and had it placed on the abandoned trestle for all to see who travel Austin Road between Saline and Bridgewater. It would be great to see it repainted and lettered into its original Ann Arbor livery, however, doing so would be challenging given its current location…
