Remarks & Notes |
An eastbound Southern Pacific hauler departs the West Colton Yard and rounds the balloon track. (All trains depart eastbound, with the Los Angeles-bound trains rounding this 360ยบ curve to reverse direction.) Power for today's train is a pair of the railroads four GP40X locomotives, which by this date have lost their distinctive "elephant ears" covering the radiator area. As for the stairway just behind the 7230, that is an observation/inspection platform for the railroad's police officers and Border Patrol agents to allow them to look into gondolas and well cars for unauthorized "passengers." |
