Absolutely amazing. I am always fascinated by how other cultures handle the same challenges. (I'm sure many a manager of a Western transit system would wish they could get this many people on their own trains.) Whereas this would never fly in the US or the EU, it obviously works for them. I, of course, am very concerned for these people's safety yet they all seem to be having a good time and regard this as normal. I do like how the passengers are allowing the driver enough window space to see. |

I think that by adding some simple improvements to their coaches they could carry several hundred more. The center of the car sides are empty so a long sturdy plank running between the steps and a long grab iron mounted just below the car windows would help. Similar long grab irons running down the length of each side of the car roof would at least give them something to hang on to. What is not seen but has to be here, is the same number of humanity on the other side of the train. I assume that the cars have seats, seats take up a lot of room, so why not just use live stock cars and open gondolas. Group insanity is still insanity after all ! Please notice that most of the riders on top of the locomotive are not wearing shoes ! How hot is the top of that engine and there has to be an exhaust and fan up there. How did Phil even get the number of that engine. |

Very interesting photo of what not to do. I can't say that I've ever seen a train loaded this full (or at least I think there's a train beneath all those people). I think the Darwin Award Runner Up should go to the guy on the front of the train with his head next to the air horn (he's standing just to the right of the headlight). |

I like the guy at the front of the loco on our left who seems to have tied himself on with something. I assume the crew can see through that little gap in the window, although the windows look opaque. Incredible shot. |

This makes a very strong statement about how important transportation is and how intensely these people want to get to and from the event. They are not insane as one commenter said. They are doing what is necessary to accomplish their goal. You have to remember we in the U.S. kill 40,000 people a year on our highways. Some would classify that as insane. |

Can you image what what happen if one were to "plug" the train. It would actually be quite funny to watch (like clowns) were it not human beings that would go flying to the ground. This could entitled "Safety, it is in the eyes of the beholder." |
