7847 has seen much better days and may have seen her last as a result of her inadvertent use to stop a runaway welded rail-train W019. The crew of Q522 with the 7847 leading was waiting on getting blocks to proceed to Birmingham when they noticed the crossing gates ahead of them activating. The alert crew then saw the headlights of an approaching train and promptly got off the Q522 freight train just as the runaway rounded the curve ahead of them. This quick thinking most certainly saved their lives. No one was injured in the runaway / derailment. Click here for the FRA report on this accident.
