Remarks: Even trash can look good! A southbound loaded garbage train wends its way along BNSF's shoreline trackage complemented with a high tide and (hold your hats!) sunshine.

Remarks: Ex-PRR SD35 6018 adds its brawn to a colorful early Conrail lash-up on a Detroit-Chicago merchandiser. I always liked SD35s -- they appeared to have big feet ... like me.

Remarks: One of CP's behemoth M636s snuggles up to the wall of the Tecumseh Road roundhouse during the infamous Winter of Seventy-Eight. Wonder if it helped?

Remarks: Is it that the sun shines more harshly these days or the railroads are cutting back on the quality of paint applied to new locomotives? BNSF GEVO 7697 isn't that old, but the orange livery is rapidly weathering toward pink!

Remarks: Hurry up and wait! A hot Z train cools its heels (reportedly for three hours) mere miles from the end of its cross-country run. Mt. Baker undoubtedly has seen this sort of thing before!

Remarks: Former CP 1246 steams toward Chester with a well-appointed passenger consist during Railfan Weekend festivities in 1981. Could the weather have been better?

Remarks: Now that the unprecedented heat wave in the Pacific Northwest has broken (most people here aren't used to dealing with such phenomena!), trains and railfans once again can emerge to pursue their respective wonts. A southbound Z train makes time toward Seattle.

Remarks: Different strokes for different folks! Scuba divers just offshore seem to be ignoring the southbound passage of a Sounder Mariners' Special (Everett to Seattle) this fine Sunday morning. Or maybe they'll be back up in time to watch baseball on TV ...

Remarks: Boeing aircraft assemblies that arrive by sea at the Port of Everett are off-loaded onto a barge, then moved across the harbor to this dock, recently opened near the bottom of BNSF's five-percent-plus spur to the assembly plant at Paine Field. Once today's quota of containers are all on the railcars, 2081 and 2080, specially modified for this service, will shove the whole batch up the hill.

Remarks: Unfortunate in its rather shabby appearance, Genesis 32 only represents the perennial state of poverty in which Amtrak has been kept for many years. Perhaps the more recent emphasis on more efficient transportation will bring about a change of priorities.

Remarks: Recrewing an empty Roberts Bank coal train before assaulting Stevens Pass. "Don't forget that jug of coffee -- we're gonna need it!" The two units on the point are assisted by two more in distributed power mode on the rear.

Remarks: Two of BNSF's latest deliveries, ES44DCs 7212 and 7206, together with a slightly older sibling, draw an empty eastbound grain train ("worm") out of Skykomish and on up the snowy Cascades to Stevens Pass. New power hums so sweetly!
