Outbound from Durango in the Animas River Valley.

The narrow gauge Durango and Silverton locomotive has just crossed the Animas River on the outskirts of Durango on the way to Silverton.

The narrow gauge D&SNG K-36 locomotive pulls its load of happy passengers uphill and into the very scenic territory that lies ahead.

First train of the Labor Day weekend is about to meet the uphill grade bound for Silverton.

First train of the day departs Durango station. Distinctive aroma of a coal fired steam locomotive displaces the odor of Egg McMuffins emanating from next door, at least for a little while.
