3114, 3127 and 3109 haul westbound #87 out of Byers Canyon in December 1981

An eastbound freight, led by 5333, 3061, 3090 and 3126, snakes through Byers Canyon on a snowy day in December 1981.

With one of the F9B units in dock, 3105 substitutes on the westbound RGZ as it passes through Byers Canyon in August 1981.

In the classic D&RGW quin tunnel motor combination, 5351, 5390, 5393, 5342 and 5369 echo through Byers Canyon with another loaded coal train on a cold December afternoon in 1981.

All units, including distributed power, are riding up front as this coal train returns to the coal mines of western Colorado.

A pair of GP40s handles this freight through Byers Canyon, en route to Denver. GP40 3078 still has a good 24 years of service ahead of it.
