A Meeting of the Generations: Amtrak Cascades train number 508 arrives into Albany, Oregon with Non Powered Control Unit number 90252 bringing up the end of the train. As number 508 pulls into the station, it passes an ancient SD7 switching freight cars in the yard. Portland and Western number 1501 was built for the Southern Pacific Railroad in November of 1952 and has been in continuous service ever since. At the time of this photo, the locomotive was just one month shy of its 70th birthday. While the locomotive continued to be used in regular service through the end of 2022, time is likely running out for the 1501 as it draws ever closer to retirement.
