Remarks & Notes
PURCELL OK (July) 1977 — Santa Fe GP38 3546 awaits a crew to take it farther south. EMD built the unit (s/n 36582) in August 1970 and delivered it in Bookends with a blue body and yellow ends. After August 1972 it was repainted into a blue body with yellow warbonnet. In January 1985 the Cleburne TX shops rebuilt into a GP38u with air conditioning and renumbered ATSF 2346. After the Sept 22 1995 BNSF merger it was renumbered BNSF 2236 on Feb 8 2000. On May 3 2003 it was converted to a Radio Controlled Unit. On an unknown date it was rebuilt as a GP38-2R by RELCO Locomotives Inc. in Albia IA. It is painted in BNSF livery and as of Jan 4 2024 may still be in service. (AP photo)
