The standard-gauge 1270-metre-long funicular was inaugurated in 1928 and covers a height difference of 170 meters from Piazza Fugo to Augusteo, with two intermediate stations. It can transport up to 6200 passengers per hour. It is operated by Azienda Napoletana Mobilità S.P.A.
