OLATHE KS March 10 1979 — UP U30C 2959 leads a mixed freight. Note someone cleaned select characters on the nose. Maybe no connection but Wikipedia records, “U-29 was responsible for sinking the aircraft carrier HMS Courageous, on 17 September 1939, the first British warship sunk in the war by enemy action.” Railfans have always referred to the U-series GEs as U-boats. GE built the unit (b/n 40964) in October 1976. It was retired on March 7 1988 and traded to GE in June 1988. My photo.
