In the last years the service plant of the SBB in Basel was modernized and expanded. Here, about 150 people perform maintenance on the Astoro, Giruno, Flirt and Domino trains as well as on the locomotives of the Re 460 series, and also on the cars of the IC2000, EW IV and Eurocity types. On August 19, the modernized layout was shown to the public on an open day. Here you can see the 202 meter long "Giruno" highspeed train RABe 501 # 006 "Obwalden" of the SBB, lifted about 2 meter from the tracks with 44 remote controlled mobile lifting jacks.
