On ausgust 10, a northbound freight train derailed in the Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) and since then, both bores are closed. All passenger trains and some freights, which are able to go through the lower claerance, are rerouted over the "old" mountain line, now called panorama line. Freight train 44681 from Mannheim Rangierbahnhof (shunting yard)/Germany via Basel to Chiasso Smistamento (shunting yard) is running over the 106 meter long Pianotondo viaduct in the Biaschina between Lavorgo and Giornico, pulled by Bombardier TRAXX F140 AC1 185 # 111 and # 126 of the Deutsche Bahn in multiple control. The freight train which derailed in the base tunnel on august 10 was a similar train in the opposite direction. Usually there were several similar trains a day between Mannheim and Chiasso and vice versa with locomotives of the Deutsche Bahn, but are operated in Switzerland by SBB Cargo (not SBB Cargo International).
