Night In KCY. The Amtrak Southwest Chief (Train #3) arrived on the evening of August 3, 2016 with an even larger consist than usual. With the Amtrak Exhibit Train on its way to Pueblo, Colorado on what was the last round of public trips, it was spliced directly into the consist. Led by P42s 48 and 121 (Phase V), P42 156 (Phase I) was chosen to power the Exhibit Train when it will ultimately split off on its own and is followed by F-40 NPCU 406 (Phase III). In the background AMTK 822 (P40DC) sits at the head of the Amtrak Southwest Chief Inspection Train, which will depart the next day, while KCS 34 (FP9A) sits on stationary display with the famous "Western Auto" sign overlooking the scene. With its illuminated letters, the magnificently restored Union Station Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri provides the backdrop
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
