0-6-0 T steam shuntinglocomotive E 3/3 "Tigerli" # 8522 of the Sursee-Triengen Bahn (ST), in Triengen. Built in 1913 by the SLM for the SBB. The locomotive was equipped with an electric steam generation system on a trial basis at the SBB workshop in Yverdon on February 11, 1943, due to lack of coal during WW II. This consisted of two electric evaporators, which were fed with current from the contact wire via two transformers. The system was removed again on April 24, 1953 and the locomotive was rebuilt as a normal steam locomotive with coal firing. From 1972 to 1987, the locomotive was in service under the direction of the Verein Dampfbahn Bern. This association took over the locomotive in 1972 and restored it to working order. The locomotive worked off the overhaul costs with the use lasting until 1987 with this association. Since 1987 the locomotive is again in Sursee. From May 2006 to 2008, it was thoroughly refurbished. It received a refurbished exchange boiler, which was previously in use on the E 3/3 # 8483. Over the winter of 2019 / 2020, overhaul work was carried out on the locomotive in Jenbach, Austria, at the Zillertalbahn workshop. In the fall of 2020, the work to bring the locomotive back into service was completed in Sursee and the locomotive was used again for the first time in a long time on the Sursee - Triengen line on September 27, 2020.
