Remarks & Notes
Routes 104. For the 100th anniversary of the Philadelphia & Westchester Traction Company, SEPTA wrapped Red Arrow Car 101, one of the 29 double-ended Kawasaki cars that serve the Routes 101/102, in a historic paint scheme. In 1936, P&W, the operator of the Route 104, had declared bankruptcy and was reorganized as the Philadelphia Suburban Transit Company (PSTC). Buses replaced rail here by 1958. The first fan trip sold out immediately, but this convinced the powers that be to schedule this second trip on June 9, 2013. While sitting at the 69th Street Transportation Center in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania waiting to depart, a convenient "meet shot" of the past and present was available with SEPTA 101 (Kawasaki, 1981) displaying the historic "West Chester" sign and 8352 (DE40LFR, New Flyer, 2010) running on the current Route 104.
