A pair of BNSF Railway GPs, GP40-2R 3025 and GP39-2 2862, are about to cut off some cars as the engineer, seen walking alongside the power to uncouple the diesels, operates them with a radio pack. This is BNSF’s 10th Street Yard in North Kansas City, and train Y-KCM1452-17 will spend quite a while shuttling cars this day. BNSF 3025 was built by EMD in December 1966 for the Chicago Burlington & Quincy GP40 172. Following the Burlington Northern merger, it was numbered BN 3002. BN had it rebuilt into a "GP40-2R" and it was then renumbered BN 3550. Another merger, creating the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (later changed to just BNSF Railway) resulting in the locomotive’s fourth identity as BNSF 3025 – and at least its third paint scheme as well. BNSF 2862 is the former ATSF 3676 … and in the background is BNSF GP28-2P 1542, ex-BNSF 1592, ex-BN GP28P 1592, ex-BN 1994, ex-BN 1991, née-NP GP18 377. (North Kansas City, Missouri – June 17, 2022)
