MN&S 10, an FM H-12-44, switches cars at its Minneapolis yard. The MN&S operated from Minneapolis to Northfield, MN (Rock Island/MILW connections) and Randolph, MN (Chicago Great Western connection). Much of their business was handling lumber cars from SOO, BN and MILW to other connections on what was called "transit routings", used to slow car movement while lumber brokers sold the cars' contents. The cars were "Rolled" from the western mills to an artificial destination, then diverted to final destinations when the contents were sold to lumber retail dealers. Big business in the 1970s.
