Three of Union Pacific’s six Heritage units, 1988 (Missouri-Kansas-Texas Heritage), 1982 (Missouri Pacific Heritage) and 1989 (Rio Grande Heritage) were found behind the shop building in the railroad’s North Platte Engine Service facility. Also there were the other three Heritage units, the 5000th GEVO, the Boy Scout engine and the "Race for the Cure" engine … and 4-8-4 844, too! They were all in town – and on display – for the UP’s annual Rail Days event. And almost forgot … UP 4884 was on a train in the yard’s east end – and while it was an SD70M, it was perhaps representing the eventual resurrection of UP 4-8-8-4 4014. (No, it wasn’t … it was just a happy coincidence.) Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE. (North Platte, Nebraska – September 16, 2012)
