Remarks & Notes
Great Northern SD7 562 stops to receive orders from the operator at Central Ave. Tower in Superior May 1970. Exactly two months into the BN merger and it looks as if nothing has changed as the 562 has yet to be renumbered BN 6012. It was common to see the Superior yard engines without BN numbers all the way into the fall of 1970. The 562 was repainted Big Sky Blue in June 1968 at Dale St. after being fire damaged in Superior on September 4, 1967. GN SD7's 562 and 569 were parked near the yard office at 17th St. when a cut of cars on adjacent track rolled loose and punctured the fuel tank on the 569. Both engines sustained substantial fire damage and were out of service until being repaired and repainted at Dale St. in 1968. J. David Ingles Photo from my collection.
