The MERR #100 south of Cumberland, quite early in its service life. GE only ever made two 2 E50Cs, specifically for the MERR. At the time, they were the most powerful motors in the country, with more continuous tractive effort than GG1s or standard E44s, (Oliver et al, 'IEEE Transactions on Industry and General Applications', September/October 1971, and 'Trains', March 1979). They were decommissioned in 2002 and scrapped by GE in 2004. An original Kodachrome slide from my collection; the photographer was not specified.
