Entering the north end of the Alameda Corridor, known colloquially as "The Trench," is BNSF Railway train B-OIGSCO5-21 (Baretables; Intermodal; Oakland Intermodal Gateway CA to Long Beach CA) on June 23, 2018. The Alameda Corridor is a below-grade, triple-track mainline used by both BNSF and Union Pacific. It begins here in downtown Los Angeles and ends 20 miles to the south in Carson, near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
