Cogwheel steamlocomotive HG 3/4 # 1 of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB) is pulling the "Blue train" # 157 from Realp over the Furka pass to Gletsch (-Oberwald) over the Wiler bridge in a grade of 11.0 %. Because of heavy wildfire risk in the Valais, the train was diesel hauled between Gletsch and Oberwald this day, which means that the passengers had to change trains in Gletsch. HG 3/4 # 1 "Furkahorn" was sold to Vietnam in 1947 after the entire electrification of the Furka-Oberalp-Bahn line, together with sisters # 2, 8 and 9. Brought back to Switzerland in 1990 and rebuilt in Meiningen/Germany in 1993. Nowadays, the locomotive is used to pull the train with the blue cars, which was the choosen color (unique selling proposition) for the DFB in the beginning. Nowadays, the main part of the cars are painted red, the locomotives black or black/dark green.
