Beginning the climb up Cuesta Pass, Amtrak's northbound Coast Starlight, carrying a pair of Amtrak California units, crosses Stenner Creek trestle as it approaches the Gold Tree horseshoe curve. The two California Department of Transportation (CDTX) units, CDTX 2051 and 2052, are returning home to Oakland after assisting for nearly two weeks on Pacific Surfliner trains between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo that operated as the only means of transportation for a time following the deadly Montecito mudslides.
