Rochester's new station boasts many improvements over the former establishment it replaced, which was built by Amtrak in 1978 as the first of its kind consisting of a standardized design for the relatively new passenger rail carrier to serve cities where the glorious old terminals of yesteryear had been victims of neglect by their former railroads for years. It features an underground tunnel that reaches a center island platform that serves two tracks.
