All painted up, and ready for the road....."well sort of!!!!" in previous of years Norfolk Southern Corp has been on a buying spree of used locomotives, and the SD40-2 were the big item of choice. Seen here sitting on the storage track outside of Debutt's Chattanooga Diesel Shop 13 recently repainted SD40-2 wait for a final inspection before these locomotive are put into service. Most of these stored motors were from a wide range of other railroads like the Union Pacific, BNSF and leasing companies such as CEFX, CITX, FURX, HLCX, and NERX. their are currently 100+ SD40-2 that are none NW, SOU, or CR which shows you that the SD40-2 still have a predominate presence on Norfolk Southern's system.
