Two Locomotives, Ninety-Years Difference in Technology
Santa Fe 4-8-4 3751 passes the (now closed) Terminal Tower at the north end of Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal on July 17, 2016. This is familiar territory for the 1927-built Baldwin Northern, which used to operate out of Los Angeles. The engine has come from its home at the Amtrak (former Santa Fe) shops at Redondo Junction, about five miles south of Union Station, in order to help Metrolink showcase its new EMD F125 diesel.
