"Like a rocket" the german test train ICE S 410 # 101/102 is leaving the 57 kilometer long Gotthard Base Tunnel at Rynächt near Erstfeld, with about 275 km p.h. (170 miles per hour). This high speed test run was from Osogna-Cresciano in the Ticino to Flüelen in Uri, about 74 km, covered in about 20 minutes. The Gotthard Base Tunnel was ordered and built for 250 km/h, so the test has to be executed with 10 % over that = 275 km/h. The 9600 kW ICE S was built in 1997 and reached a maximum velocity of 393 km/h in 2001 between Oebisfelde and Berlin in Germany.
