Remarks & Notes
Amtrak No. 5, the California Zephyr, traverses scenic Byers Canyon west of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado, on March 22, 1997. A recent rock slide came down on the tracks at this location, taking out the slide fence and pole line. The slide fence behind the train is repaired, but the poles for the code line have yet to be installed, opening up this view in the canyon, albeit a very temporary one!
