Remarks & Notes |
Electric cogwheel railcar Bhe 1/2 # 25, 27 and 23 (all built by SLM and MFO in 1937) on the Mattalp. The continuation of the route goes from right to left through the Eselwand (donkey wall) with a pitch of up to 48 %. The donkey is one of the summit of Mount Pilatus mountain range. The world's steepest cogwheel railway was inaugurated in 1889 and goes from Alpnachstad (440 meter a.s.l.) to the Pilatus mountain (2073 meter a.s.l.). The gauge is 800 mm and the Locher cogwheel system is unique. Because the railway is not running in wintertime from mid november till may, a picture with so much snow is very unusual!
