One of the more interesting trains I have witnessed along Union Pacific's Provo Subdivision is the one you see here. A Valmy coal train arrived at Provo from Sharp on April 28, 1985. Due to a crew shortage, the Provo trainmaster had the PVSC power (Provo - Salt Lake City) couple to the coal load and head to Salt Lake City. Four Missouri Pacific GP38-2s lead two UP SD40-2s and two SP SD40T-2s, pictured north of Lehi at the Timpanogos Highway crossing. This location is about three miles south of the summit at the Utah/Salt Lake County line at Point of the Mountain. If only I'd had a movie camera with sound that day!
