| With the steep upward climb to Soldier Summit complete, the head end power and swing helpers for UP's MRONY-21 have the luxury of coasting down a relatively gentle 1% gradient three miles east of Summit. The Helper swing helper remained coupled to the tail end of this 79 car train all the way to Helper yard, providing dynamic braking for the not so gentle 2.3% descent between Kyune and Castle Gate. Perpetual (seemingly endless) summer construction along US Highway 6 is evident along the east side of the pass. |
