Remarks & Notes
Back when Roper Terminal was a joint Rio Grande and Western Pacific venture, switch engine #134 carefully shuttles three D&RGW and one WP caboose at the west end of the yard. Note the dress code was quite different back in the 1970's...no visi vests or ear protection. It does appear that both the brakeman and trainee are wearing sturdy steel toed boots on this late spring afternoon. D&RGW SD7 #5302 awaits duty on the Short Line Transfer parked along the shop lead at right.

Have you ever watched cabooses, enjoyed their uniqueness, wondered about the men inside, or the jobs they do? Once an everyday sight on the rails, they have decreased in numbers, yet they are a very important part of railroad history.
