So as I pulled up to the former Great Northern depot I was surprised to see that some local caretaker was thoughtful enough to provide a train update on the chalk board hung outside the waiting room door. Then I noticed the date...October 3...hmmm, I wonder what happened to them, clearly he/she is asleep at the switch! Browning is a down-on-its-luck northern Montana town located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, but it is served by the Empire Builder each direction every day of the week during the off season when East Glacier station is closed. The BNSF MofW crews still use the venerable structure and a small unstaffed waiting room provides a little respite from the brutal -15 degree cold this day. |
