SP SW1200 2287 splits old Pacific Electric crossbucks at 186th Street as it brings a train of empty tank cars up the West Santa Ana Branch to the Continental Oil Company (Conoco) refinery in Paramount. It is seen here as it passes through Artesia, CA on January 14, 1973. SP 2287 was built by EMD in November 1965 as SP 1622 - delivered with the old number even though delivery was accepted after the 1965 renumbering. (As of 1/28/22, 19.3-miles of this former Pacific Electric line was green-lighted to become a light rail line, slated for completion in 2043 - basically, one mile per year to build (why so slow?). The line will connect Cerritos and other cities to the northwest with downtown Los Angeles. Perhaps someday they can connect this with the light rail line on this same right-of-way due to open in Santa Ana in 2023.)
