Remarks & Notes
The two-cylinder superheated 2-8-0 "Consolidation" steam locomotive G 4/5 # 108, built in 1906 by SLM in Winterthur for the Rhaetian Railway—primarily for the Albula line—is traveling at full steam up a 3.5 % grade from Bever toward Spinas and the Albula Tunnel. It is pulling the transfer train from Samedan via Filisur-Davos to Landquart, for the train organized by the Rhaetian Railway Steam Enthusiasts Association to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Albula Railway Club the following day. In recent weeks, the locomotive has been restored to its former appearance by removing the “ENGIADINA” nameplate—which had been affixed to the sides of the cab in 2006 to mark the locomotive’s 100th anniversary—and replacing it with the factory plate again. Below this, a separate plate lists the dates of the most recent overhauls. The technical markings that were written to the side of the tender have been removed. With the large snowplow—which was reinstalled for the first time since 2008 in preparation for the winter of 2025/2026—the locomotive looks very elegant and bears witness to the beautiful design created by the SLM engineers 120 years ago. Following the locomotive is the two-axle baggage car # 4052 II, which was delivered to the Rhaetian Railway in 1913 by SIG in Neuhausen as F # 4043. In 1959, it was fitted with a new wooden body, clad with sheet metal on the outside. Since 1999, it has been used on steam trains as car D # 4052 II, the “Rhätia Stübli” rolling bar.
