Amtrak/Siemens Airo Trainset Runs In New Jersey. On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Amtrak Trains 864/865 operated between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Newark, New Jersey, round-trip. This non-revenue test train marked the first time that a new Siemens Airo Trainset operated on this portion of the Northeast Corridor Line. The eight six-car Siemens Venture Trainsets that have been ordered for Amtrak Cascades Service (Vancouver, BC-Eugene, OR) are the first of their type to be delivered, and will replace the Talgo sets. Thus far, three have arrived, out of a total of 83 that will ultimately operate in a variety of Amtrak State Supported and Regional Services. This set will ultimately go to the West Coast to enter service and is on the East Coast for testing, evaluation, and modification.
Each trainset will include one Business Class Car, three Coach Class Cars, one Cafe Car, and one combined Coach/Cab Car. The car design is similar to existing Siemens Venture Cars that can be found on Amtrak Midwest, Brightline, and other services. They will be powered by either an SC-44 Charger or an ALC-42E Charger. For Northeast Corridor service, there will also be a Business Class Coach-APV (Auxiliary Power Vehicle) Business Class Car that will have a pantograph to feed power to the ALC-42E; for Empire Service, it will be a similar arrangement, but with a battery car.
