Phase III As Far As The Eye Can See. On November 11, 2025, Amtrak Train 49 (Lake Shore Limited) was led by the P32AC-DM trio of AMTK 715, 706 and 705, seen passing through Yonkers, New York. Behind the power, there was a Phase III baggage car, another pair of Phase III Viewliner IIs, and after a Phase IV Viewliner, a Phase III diner. After an absence of many years, the three color Phase III started to make a return to long distance equipment and New York State dual mode locomotives in the mid 2010s, but it was an unusual treat to see this many in a row.
Back-to-back P32AC-DMs (and on this day an additional deaheading P32) lead the 'reverse consist' from New York Penn Station to Albany-Rensselaer, NY (ALB). At ALB, the train will be wyed (turned around), and two new locomotives will replace this power for the rest of the trip to Chicago, Illinois. This power arrangement and the reverse consist have been standard for the past several months during construction on the East River Tubes.
