International trains K23 and K24 (Beijing–Ulaanbaatar) have been operating between the capitals of China and Mongolia since June 2025. As seen in this photo, the train uses China Railway rolling stock, and in 2026 the Chinese side is operating the service until the end of the year. After that, the Mongolian side will take over operations, and a different trainset will appear on this route.
In general, both railways alternate the operation of long-distance international passenger services on a yearly basis. Meanwhile, many railfans and train bashers are still waiting for the Trans-Siberian Express (Moscow–Ulaanbaatar–Beijing) to resume service on the Eurasian transcontinental route. This train has not been operating since the COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.
