Before there were heritage units, I had an idea: since there were several predecessor GP30's restored for the main component railroads of the modern-day Norfolk Southern, what if we gather three of them and do a "30th anniversary" photo shoot with them? Wheels were put into motion, and we rounded up Conrail 2233 from the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, Norfolk & Western 522 from the Roanoke Chapter NRHS, and Southern 2594 from Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. They were brought together at the former NW East End Shop in Roanoke, along with NS SD60E 6902, for several days of GP30 fun and excitement. NW 522's fresh coat of paint had just been completed three days prior at the nearby NRHS facility. This is just one of the many setups documented during the "family reunion".
