On October 1st, 2025, New Jersey Transit’s self-propelled Track Geometry Inspection Vehicle (TGIV) departs Princeton station on the Princeton Branch in New Jersey, heading back toward Princeton Junction on the Northeast Corridor. Built by Harsco Rail, the TGIV continuously measures track geometry and catenary conditions using an array of non-contact sensors at speeds up to 50 mph. The data gathered provides NJ Transit engineering teams with a detailed view of track condition, supporting proactive maintenance and long-term infrastructure planning.
