Railcare, the railway company owned by the major retailer Coop, serves around 70 branches in the city of Zurich several times a day with a direct train from the Schafisheim distribution center, departing from Hunzenschwil station via Lenzburg-Killwangen. Train 50875, with the Siemens “Vectron” 193 # 462 leased from SBB Cargo International, has just arrived at Zurich Vorbahnhof track R3. The cars are then moved to two unloading tracks using a diesel locomotive, and the up to 32 reefer containers are transferred horizontally from the rail wagons to trucks using the “Container Mover” system. The system has been tried and tested at Railcare for over 10 years. Every year, it saves around 58,000 truck trips in and out of the city of Zurich, reducing CO2 emissions by 80% compared to road transport alone.
