For three months, from October to December 1986, General Motors Electro-Motive Division built 100 SD60s to lease to the Burlington Northern Railroad. (Could either of the builders crank out that many locomotives in that timeframe these days?) These units were painted in EMD demonstrator colors, marked with large "Electro-Motive" lettering and an EMD logo on the hoods, with "Leased to Oakway Inc." under the cab numbers. And Oakway Inc., in turn, leased them to BN.
A pair of these, in consecutive numbers (OWY 9051 and 9050) pull a loaded coal train through Nebraska's rolling Sand Hills on a bright summer day. (Antioch, Nebraska – July 8, 1995)
