CSX Transportation SD40-2 8016 was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division as Louisville & Nashville 8016 in July 1979. When the L&N was merged with other railroads (AWP, CRR, GA, SCL and WRA) to create the Seaboard System on December 29, 1982, this locomotive became SBD 8016. Another merger occurred on July 1, 1986, when SBD and Chessie System (BO, CO and WM) merged to create CSX Transportation, resulting in this locomotive becoming CSXT 8016. Thus, three different reporting marks (LN, SBD and CSXT) but only one number (8016).
