A few days ago, it was announced that these articulated lowfloor Thurbo vehicles will begin a second life in Hungary with MAV in 2029. A total of 93 vehicles of the short “AK” type, the longer ‘AKL’ type, and those “AJU” vehicles taken over from Regionalverkehr Mittelland/BLS/SBB will be converted by Stadler to 25,000 V 50 Hz and equipped with ETCS and the Hungarian EVM/Mirel train control systems. The vehicles will be handed over in stages between 2029 and 2035, parallel to the commissioning of the new Flirt Evo trains at Thurbo. The short "AK" (automatic coupler) RABe 526 # 702 of Thurbo is running the S7 service 11739 from Weinfelden via Romanshorn to Rorschach, between Erlen and Oberaach, near the StadlerRail commissioning centre.
