The freight to San Diego normally operates at night, after the busy line heading south along the Pacific quiets down. But at times they operated in the daytime, often because of maintenance being performed in the wee hours. Which, apparently, is why BNSF Railway’s 84-car H-BARSDG is seen while the sun, passing through the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (which serves both Amtrak and Metrolink, and next year OCTA streetcars), is heading from Barstow to San Diego while the sun is out. BNSF ES44C4 7118, Dash 9-44CW 5247 and SD70ACe 9146 are up front, with ES44DC 7818 and Dash 9-44CW 5324 on the rear. In just over 25 miles, this train will be skirting the beach and the Pacific Ocean – a very nice view for the crew! (Especially as the sun sets…)
