The 44 ICN RABDe 500 tilting trains # 000 to # 043 of the SBB, built between 1999 and 2005, are to undergo extensive renovation approximately halfway through their service life. The first train, RABDe 500 # 004 “Mani Matter,” is now in timetabled service after a very long stay at the Yverdon industrial plant (since 2021). It runs as IC 1517 on the IC5 line from Lausanne via Yverdon-les-Bains-Neuchâtel-Biel-Olten to Zurich, between Bettlach and Selzach. The exterior design has been changed only slightly. The doors are now predominantly red, the lower part of the front is now white instead of dark gray, and the SBB logo is three-dimensional instead of just stuck on. The family compartment is easier to find on the outside of the train with a corresponding picture. By 2031, all 44 trains are to be renovated at a cost of over CHF 500 million.
