Freight from Freehold to Farmingdale -
The Friday morning train from Jamesburg is hauling six lumber cars east on the Freehold Secondary as it approaches Yellowbrook Rd. The train is heading to Woodhaven Lumber in Lakewood with locomotives 2005 and 1888. The train is on a 5 mile segment of track between Freehold and Farmingdale that was originally built in the 1860s. This line was then owned and operated by Pennsy, Penn Central, and Conrail. Conrail allowed this segment of track to fall into disrepair and it had not seen a train since the early 2000s. That was until the Delaware and Raritan River Railroad took over operations of the line from Conrail in 2022 and rehabilitated this segment of the Freehold Secondary in 2023. Today this segment of track sees regular freight service. |
