My 19,000th picture on Railpictures. After a long day in beautiful weather on the Furka Mountain Railway on the eastern side of the Furka Pass, around 25 passengers and staff of the P.M. photo event gather in front of the two HG 4/4 # 704 and # 708 cogwheel steam locomotives in Furka DFB. This is the first time that both locomotives can be seen here at 2,160 meters above sea level with trains. As is well known, both engines were built in 1923 and 1930 by SLM Winterthur for French Indochina, now Vietnam, and never ran on the Furka line. They were transported to Switzerland in 1990, more or less as scrap, and since this summer, both locomotives have been beautifully restored and are back in service.
