“Geep Geometry Beyond MNR Limits”
Just after midnight on June 10th, 2025, Metro-North Railroad’s Geometry/Track Inspection Train, led by EMD GP35r 106, sits at Division Post on the Shore Line section of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, just east of CP 274 at the eastern limits of the New Haven Line in New Haven, Connecticut. To inspect the interlocking, the train had to clear one train length onto Amtrak’s territory. This is a move that happens from time to time with Metro-North trains that need to switch tracks at CP 274.
The Geometry train is tasked inspecting the overall track geometry on all main line trackage utilized by Metro-North trains at track speed. This includes the Hudson, Harlem & New Haven Lines as well as the New Canaan, Danbury & Waterbury branches.
